Cold wax strips are great for those who want a quick, minimal fuss waxing experience at home. The Veet Wax Strips with Easy Gel for Normal Skin mainly deliver on that – read on for my full review.
Veet Wax Strips with Easy Gel claim to grip hair as short as 1.5mm and remove the hair rather than the skin. Veet also claims that the strips remove the hair from the root for up to 28 days of smooth skin and give great first-time results. This option is formulated with shea butter to moisturise and an acai berry scent aimed at normal skin.
Ease of use
I was pleased to see that there was no need to rub the strips together to warm them up before separating and using them. This saved quite a lot of time. The strips peeled apart easily and the wax distribution was even. In the past I have used strips where sometimes one strip ends up with patchy wax coverage which is no good. Application was easy and comfortable – the gel wax felt quite nice on my skin.
I used the strips on my lower legs and knees only, the two places which are very used to waxing! There was barely any pain for me as I have many, many years of practicing the technique. I still always read the instructions though.
You can use each strip more than once and even though my hair was quite long I was able to use each strip 3-4 times before it stopped being sticky and there was barely any residue left after waxing. As I finished each pair of strips, I stuck them together and threw them in the bin.
To remove the wax residue I used a Perfect Finish Wipe which is part of the kit. I always find them stiff and scratchy and there are never enough in the box – only two were provided so once they have been used I use baby oil. As a matter of fact, it’s the only reason I now keep a bottle of baby oil!
I couldn’t test the hair length claim because the hair was much longer than 1.5mm. As for 28 days of smoothness, that has never happened for me so I haven’t waited 28 days to tell you about the wax.
Whilst no skin came off, and I would hope so too, I found that it left my dry skin really dry. You could see that the oils were stripped from my legs as they went an ashy grey colour. The shea butter therefore did not work for me in this context however the strips were not made for those with dry skin. The fragrance is pleasant but that’s not really a main factor for me when considering which wax to buy.
The finish was as expected – pretty good with a few hairs left behind. Although cold wax strips are not my favourite waxing method, I always keep some at home just in case. The Veet Wax Strips with Easy Gel are welcome to remain in my bathroom cupboard!
