Sparkle-wrapped metallic lipsticks

Metallic lipstick is great if you want a hi-shine lip without having to wear gloss but how about sparkle-wrapped lipstick? In 2018, Pat McGrath Labs released three of her BlitzTrance lipsticks as Starglaze – the outside of the lipstick bullet was wrapped in sparkle. As if a metallic finish wasn’t enough, we get our own personal disco ball! Huda Beauty also released a similar lipstick shortly afterwards.

Towards the end of 2019, I noticed that many more lipsticks had a sparkle wrapping and I purchased from three brands to try them out. There were more but I couldn’t justify buying all of them! If you have any of the others, comment below with your thoughts.

My Pat McGrath BlitzTrance Starglaze Lipstick is super hi-shine and pretty and the casing is a spectacular silver glitter with a gold trim so it’s a delight to hold. It wears better over lip liner as it comes off quite easily, probably because it is so creamy.

Despite resisting at first because I had my Pat McGrath BlitzTrance lipsticks, I bought the Huda Beauty Power Bullet Metallic Lipsticks and they are amazing! The casing has a gradient from the colour of the lipstick to black and is magnetic. Both Cake Day and After Party are incredibly shiny, almost mirror-like and the pigment is intense. The lipsticks are creamy and comfortable to wear.

Now on to the new, limited edition releases for the end of 2019.

My first Uoma lipstick is the Black Magic Hypnotic Impact Metallic Lipstick in Lady of Gold. Yes, it is a gold lipstick and generally gold lips are difficult to wear. This one came in metallic red casing and had a rich tone to it. On wearing, it is more of a top coat than an opaque, metallic gold.

Next I have Bobbi Brown’s Luxe Jewel Lipstick (mentioned in my previous post) in Ruby Slipper. It takes a few swipes to get it opaque and it has a pretty shine to it. True to Bobbi Brown form, it is more for those who prefer a natural look and this will take you just outside of your comfort zone if that’s you. The shade was a bit too warm for me, probably because the sparkle is on the golden side but otherwise it was very pretty. Being a Luxe lipstick, it comes in glamourous gold casing.

Finally I picked up a NARS Disco Dust Lipstick in Lisa. In the bullet it looks just like Ruby Slipper but the red is more intense and has a greater concentration of sparkle so it is super shiny. Although I think the base shade is the same as Ruby Slipper, the sparkle is silver-coloured so it cooled it down, and my preference is for cool reds. I felt mega-glam wearing it and it lasts for a long time on the lips, even without lipliner. The casing is black, heavy and metallic. Very luxurious.

In terms of a swipe and go lipstick, NARS is the best one for me and I wish I managed to purchase the others before they sold out and I went on a beauty spending ban. Uoma’s adds a pretty sparkle to matte liquid lipstick so I’d like to try some more.

I would have liked to buy all the golds and purples but I needed to exercise some self-control! I really hope they are re-released this year. Which lipsticks do you want to see me wear? Which do you want to know more about? Comment below!

I'd love to know what you think!
